Over 400 Family Affordable Housing plus community health clinic & social services
The building massing is divided into three wings, creating three courtyards that provide intimate outdoor spaces that open onto the Grand Lawn, used for large gatherings.
Situated on a former military Navy housing site that served Long Beach shipyards, the site was conveyed to Century Housing in 1997 under the federal McKinney Act for the benefit of the homeless.
Since that time, Century has served as steward of the property, which is home to more than 1,300 residents, including more than 550 veterans.
Many elements of the exterior design were brought to the interiors, including the various shades of yellows, greys, and greens, plus pops of vibrant colors in artwork throughout.
Many sound-absorbent products were selected to mitigate the noise, while staying on track with LEED-certified products to score a Platinum level.
Amenities include a community room with professional kitchen for cooking and prep lessons. The main lobby takes you to the social services area that provides a live/work room.
A second wing of that building contains a large reception area.
The campus also includes a family health clinic with full services for the vets and their families. In addition to creating a new community it also provides many new exterior gathering spaces.
